Birds of the Refuge
A primary factor in establishing the Caddo Lake National Wildlife Refuge was to ensure the conservation and protection or migratory and resident waterfowl and neotropical migratory birds associated with Caddo Lake wetlands.

Forests and wetlands associated with the refuge provide habitat for 224 species of birds, including the Red-cockaded Woodpecker, Brownheaded Nuthatch, and Bachman’s Sparrow.

The refuge is located in the West Gulf Coastal Plain area, also known as the Piney Woods (Region 5, Texas Parks & Wildlife Ecoregion.

 

Dear Feathered Friends,

We had an exciting bird banding day on November 28. We are in our 13th year of bird banding, and this is the FIRST time we banded a BLUE-HEADED VIREO.
